Review

This children’s book focuses on the Islamic belief that two angels record our deeds: our good deeds (angel on the right) and our bad deeds (angel on the left). ‘My Special Angels’ takes this belief and analyses it in such a way that people of any age can grasp this key concept. It is a wonderful book for young children who are just beginning to understand more about Islam and the morals and manners that Muslims are supposed to have. The rhyme scheme helps to keep it fluid and entertaining whilst also allowing the material to be absorbed and easily retained. The wording further lends itself to achieve understanding, and the simplified language allows children to still be able to read and understand the message that ‘My Special Angels’ is conveying. It is written in a way that children can relate to, and encourages good behaviour and actions that are in line with Islamic teachings. The high-quality illustrations correspond well to the writing, reinforcing the topic of the page. The jobs of the two angels are presented using examples of typical experiences that most young children will encounter, and while it teaches Muslim children something about their faith, it is an excellent book for teaching about good and bad to children of all faiths....
